Overview

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

 

The Development Manager provides administrative and program support for SCCA Development activities. The Development Manager works in collaboration with SCCA Leadership and across Fred Hutch, UW Medicine, Seattle Children’s programs to ensure donor cultivation, stewardship, recognition and acknowledgement activities are executed in a timely manner, with an eye towards delivering outstanding customer service. The Development Manager is expected to be a self-starter and able to work independently while communicating with multiple contacts across the Alliance. Must maintain professionalism, be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities and remain composed under pressure of deadlines. Must exhibit dependability, willingness to work collaboratively and be capable of working well within all levels of the organizations.

 

The Development Manager must be able to effectively communicate the mission, values and scope of the Alliance and each institution. The Development Manager reports to the VP, Philanthropy at Fred Hutch and to the VP and Chief Strategy Officer at the SCCA with input on performance management and prioritization by all partners.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

 

Program Management

  • Triages development requests which may include external event inquiries, promotion requests, etc.
  • Responds to donor inquires and trouble shoots questions about donations, acknowledgement letters and gift designation
  • Uses weekly, monthly and quarterly updates to ensure open communication across fundraising programs
  • Provides general support for the program, such as maintaining current progress documentation, collateral supplies across campus, updating publications data, coordinating meetings, and room reservations
  • Helps people at partner institutions with patient referral support
  • Communicates with appropriate colleagues regarding the areas under the Transfer Price Agreement (Fred Hutch: VP Philanthropy, CPE Advancement Services, Director of Gift Services, Data Control Technician, Senior Data Analyst, Annual Giving, Planned Giving, Corporate and Foundation Relations)
  • Communicates with SCCA leadership and CDOs at partner institutions on a regular basis, using clearly outlined standards for reporting and group email norms
  • Prepares fundraising updates and comparison charts on a regular basis in sync with the timing of Board meetings

 

Gift Processing and Allocation of Restricted Funds

  • Functions as a partner and critical liaison for the SCCA gift processor (50% FTE, Transfer Price Agreement with Fred Hutch)
  • Tracks dollars donated and works closely with SCCA finance, ensuring donations are deposited into the correct fund, that funds are awarded and spent and/or distributed to each Alliance organization in a timely manner
  • Ensures compliance with donor intent
  • Triages requests related to honor/memorial fund creation

 

Donor Engagement

  • Stewards SCCA donors with giving capacity below $50,000 working in close partnership with philanthropic gift officers at UW Medicine and Fred Hutch
  • Serves as liaison for partner institutions to plan, organize, execute and evaluate annual giving activities for the SCCA; assists with the development of an annual fundraising letter and related materials

 

Administrative Support

  • Exhibits exceptional customer service on the phone and when greeting guests and donors
  • Maintains budget for SCCA Development and processes all invoices 
  • Maintains supplies of Development materials
  • Maintains confidentiality of all sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form
  • Prepares general correspondence including memos and e-mails, proofreads copy for spelling, grammar and layout, and makes appropriate edits; responsible for accuracy and appearance of final documents
  • Special assignments or projects as needed or requested

 

Events

  • Serves as main point of contact for Fred Hutch staff managing SCCA community partner events (25% FTE, Transfer Price Agreement TPA with Fred Hutch) and needing access to SCCA speakers, assistance with funding questions, logo approvals from marketing, and tracking of funds raised via Community Partner events including Swim Across America.
  • Works with SCCA marketing on external and internal communications, where appropriate, regarding events 
  • Coordinates stewardship events for SCCA donor events to include management of logistics and details such as catering, decorations and attendance tracking 

Qualifications

Summary of Experience

  • Bachelors degree required 
  • Three to four years experience in non-profit project management, marketing, development or related field 
  • Strong writing skills required
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or RENxT preferred
